Here is a song we have been working on in class this week. It is an American folk song and is used as a simple song in our classroom. These songs have a limited range and are short and easy to remember. This enables children to have a successful attempt at early solo singing.

A fun activity to do while singing this song is to act out the motions of the squirrel. Change the words from hop to jump, run, skip, tiptoe.....

Here is a recording of a piece we have been working with in music class. It is the Hary Janos Suite Movement 2: Viennese Musical Clock by Zoltan Kodaly.

As a class we use different body percussion to practice a steady beat within a song that stays at 120-136 beats per minute.

Hello, Geneva first graders and families! I hope you are looking forward to music class this year as much as I am. Parents are always welcome to join us in music class. Please let me know if you are interested in coming to a class with your child.
